What is a Prosthodontist?
Implant, Esthetic and Reconstructive Dentistry
A prosthodontist is a dentist who specializes in the restoration and replacement of teeth. As one of the nine American Dental Association (ADA) recognized dental specialties, extensive training and education is required to be a prosthodontist.
Areas of Expertise of a Prosthodontist
- Esthetic dentistry (crowns, veneers, tooth-colored restorations, and whitening procedures)
- Implant Dentistry – Dr. Horton was trained in BOTH the surgical placement and restorative aspects of implant dentistry, such as implant-assisted overdentures and implant-supported fixed “hybrid” dentures. Prosthodontics is the only dental specialty that requires training in residency for BOTH surgical and restorative implant dentistry
- Reconstructive Dentistry (crowns, bridges, dentures, traumatic injuries to the teeth, and complex rehabilitations)
- TMJ-related disorders, including orofacial and jaw-related pain disorders
